Understand: Peer-to-Peer Fundraising
Learn about RallyUp’s Peer-to-Peer options and how to customize them.
Peer-to-Peer fundraising, also known as team fundraising, is a way for your supporters to help raise funds on your behalf. It gives supporters the ability to share your Fundraising Experience with their family, friends, and social media network. This maximizes your Experience's outreach, which can boost the amount of funds you raise.
RallyUp provides many tools and customization options to help you run a smooth and successful Peer-to-Peer fundraiser. The links below will take you to other Knowledge Base articles with further information.
Peer-to-Peer Examples
Crowdfunding with Peer-to-Peer
Peer-to-Peer vs. A-Thons
Peer-to-Peer fundraising is similar to but not quite the same as an A-Thon. Both allow supporters to help you fundraise, but in different ways:
- Peer-to-Peer: Supporters sign up as participants to help spread the word about your fundraiser. When someone makes a donation or purchase, they can credit the participant that sent them
- A-Thons: Supporters sign up to complete units of a specific activity (e.g., walking laps) and earn donations for each unit completed (e.g., someone pledges one dollar for each lap their friend walks)
Enable Peer-to-Peer
RallyUp allows you to add Peer-to-Peer to the following Fundraising Activities:
- Raffles (supporters can get credit for entries sold)
- Events (supporters can get credit for tickets sold)
- Crowdfunding (supporters can get credit for donations made)
- Store (Sale) (supporters can get credit for items sold)
- Sweepstakes (supporters can get credit for entries sold)
- Livestream with Paid Admission (supporters can get credit for admission tickets sold)
You can enable Peer-to-Peer in Experience Setup:

Pre-Registration
Pre-registration allows donors to create a RallyUp account and save a payment method before your Peer-to-Peer fundraiser begins. When your Peer-to-Peer fundraiser starts, they can check out quickly and easily:

Public or Private Registration
If you opt for public registration, anyone who visits your fundraiser can sign up as a Participant and/or Team. If you opt for private registration, you'll need to manually add Participants and/or Teams instead of allowing them to sign up on their own.
Public vs. Private Registrations: What’s the Difference?
Prizes and Leaderboards
One effective way to generate excitement and healthy competition among your participants is to display leaderboards and offer prizes to top supporters. You can also add different leaderboards or prizes for different criteria, such as highest amount raised vs. most unique donors.

Participant Center
When you enable Peer-to-Peer, a Participant Center will be added to your Experience where supporters can learn how to participate, register as a Participant and/or team, and view leaderboards and/or prizes.
What Is the Participant Center?
Personal Fundraising Pages
Each Participant and/or Team will receive a Personal Fundraising Page that can be customized, shared on social media, and sent to family and friends. If a donation is made to a specific participant of any team, the participant's amount raised and the team’s total amount raised will reflect the donation.

Crediting a Participant or Team
When someone donates or makes a purchase, they can choose which Participant and/or Team gets credit for the donation, or donate without crediting anyone:
If the donor can't find the Participant and/or Team they're looking for, RallyUp allows write-in donations by default. However, if you allow write-in donations, you'll need to credit the appropriate Participant or Team manually. You can disable write-in donations anytime.
